CO₂ and humidity control for potato storage
See what is happening around your potatoes during storage. Actus ELENA measures temperature, humidity, and CO₂ in your existing room, with optional air exchange and automatic humidification based on vapor pressure deficit (VPD).
Two related decisions: air exchange and humidification
Potato respiration can cause CO₂ to build up in storage. Exchanging air can help manage that buildup, while also changing temperature and humidity. That is why these variables should be viewed together and actions adjusted to the storage stage and conditions in your facility.
The goal is to help your team spot changes in time and manage storage conditions using data, history, and alerts.
Airsense and CoreSense: see the air and the potatoes

Actus Airsense measures air temperature, relative humidity, and CO₂. Sensors are placed throughout the room and zones to observe conditions around your product.
The Actus CoreSense probe complements those readings by measuring internal potato temperature, so your team can distinguish product temperature from air temperature.
- Air temperature: environmental conditions by zone.
- Relative humidity: moisture in the air around the product.
- CO₂: buildup and changes during air exchange.
- Product temperature: temperature inside the product, measured with CoreSense.
How control works
CO₂: air exchange
With the monitoring and control option and the Actus air-exchange system, fresh air enters while CO₂-rich air is exhausted automatically according to the system configuration and storage stage. The air-exchange system is quoted for each installation.
Humidity: VPD-based humidification
VPD relates relative humidity to air and product temperature. It helps your team assess dehydration and condensation risk. With Actus humidification, the control system adds moisture in pulses when appropriate and stops when condensation risk rises.
Humidification equipment is supplied separately. Configuration depends on your room, product, and storage stage; one setting is not appropriate for every operation.
Choose how your operation responds
Monitoring and alerts
ELENA-MView readings, history, alerts, and recommendations on web and mobile. Your team decides when to intervene and takes action; this option does not operate equipment.
Monitoring and control
ELENA-MCIncludes monitoring and adds automatic actions through a control module and compatible Actus air-exchange and humidification systems.
ELENA is installed in the storage room you already have. Actus does not build the room or supply or operate the refrigeration plant. Your existing controller remains responsible for refrigeration; ELENA does not switch compressors or evaporator fans.
Observed case: potatoes stored for processing
In one customer’s industrial potato storage operation at 10–11 °C, dehydration loss after three months was about 10%. After installing the monitoring and control option, loss over a similar period was about 5%.
This is an observed result from one operation, not a guarantee or a temperature recommendation for all potatoes. Results depend on variety, intended use, storage room, installation, and operating practices.

What we review before proposing an installation
- Your room’s capacity, layout, and storage zones.
- Potato variety, intended use, and storage cycle.
- Existing refrigeration, air-exchange, and humidification systems.
- Which variables you need to track and who responds to alerts.
With that information, we can review Airsense and CoreSense placement and whether monitoring with alerts or automatic control may fit your operation.
Frequently asked questions
Does Airsense measure the temperature inside a potato?
No. Airsense measures air temperature, relative humidity, and CO₂. The Actus CoreSense probe measures internal product temperature.
Does the sensor itself control CO₂ and humidity?
Airsense provides readings. Automatic actions require the monitoring and control option, the control module, and the applicable Actus air-exchange or humidification systems.
Can I start with monitoring only?
Yes. Monitoring and alerts let you see conditions and receive notifications so your team can act. We can review whether automatic control may also be useful for your room.
Is the humidification equipment included?
Actus humidification equipment is supplied separately. The air-exchange system is quoted for each installation.
What humidity and CO₂ settings should I use for my potatoes?
Settings are reviewed based on variety, intended use, storage stage, and room conditions. Contact us to review the configuration for your operation.
